South Bend Youth Task Force

Who: High school students living in South Bend 

Interests: Politics, Helping the community

Grades: 9-12

Length of Commitment: 1 year w/ meeting every month

What is it?: A program for South Bend area students that work together to lead an advocacy program to help their community.

Upward Bound (TRIO @ Notre Dame)

Who: SBCSC high school students from low-income families and from families in which neither parent holds a bachelor's degree. 

Interests: Increase GPA, SAT, and ACT scores, attending a good college

Grades: 9-12

Length of Commitment: 20 weeks of individualized tutoring and instruction in core subjects during the school year

What is it?: College preparatory program

Awesome Fund

Who: Anybody that would like to make the South Bend area better

Interests:  Improving the South Bend area

Grades:  9-12

Length of Commitment: One time event

What is it?:  A local fund that pays out $1000 to certain people for creation of businesses and organizations aimed at making the South Bend area awesome

Grades 10-12

Saint Joseph Health System Volunteering

Who: High school students (16 years and older)

Interests: Helping others/volunteering, working in the medical field

Grades: 10-12 (16 years and older)

Length of Commitment: 3-4 hour commitment once a week

What is it?: Volunteer opportunity at Saint Joseph Health hospitals to help in both the patient and non-patient areas

Grades 11-12

Start-up Moxie

Who: High schools that attend a high school in St. Joseph/Elkhart county

Interests: Business, Entrepreneurship, Creating something out of nothing

Grades: 11 & 12

Length of Commitment: 1 year w/ meetings everyday of the school year in the morning

What is it?: A program for students to learn how to become good entrepreneurs. Program will often have meetings at other businesses in the community to assist in learning about business.

St. Joseph County Leadership

Who:  St. Joseph County junior and seniors

Interests: Government, leadership

Grades: 11-12

Length of Commitment: 7 meetings/ year + 2 community projects

What is it?: Program for high students to develop skills for a future in the government. The members also work on two community projects while a part of the program.

Bethel REACH Program

Who:  High school juniors and seniors that want to take college classes

Interests:  Take college classes and earning college credits

Grades: 11-12

Length of Commitment: One semester or more

What is it?: Program for high students to take college classes at a reduced tuition, earn college credit, and participate in Bethel clubs.
